GrojBand – Trina Trippin

Hey gang!
Not long ago, we introduced you to Corey ‘Core’ Trippin, the hero and front man of GrojBand, Todd Kauffman and Mark Thornton’s new animated series which is currently in pre-production at Fresh TV. Today we’ve got some info on Core’s greatest foe and constant challenge: his sister, Trina!

TRINA TRIPPIN – Sister/Keeper of Words “Just try to imagine… Just imagine… How little I care and junk.”

This emotional 16 year old is Corey’s sister and ARCH-NEMESIS. Trina’s got no clue that Corey’s stealing her diary and thinks his ANNOYING little band is nothing more than a waste of good garage space. A garage SHE could be using as her own, gigantic bedroom. So she’s out to wreck Corey’s plans whenever she can.

Trina is the QUEEN BEE at Elementary High. She’s as popular as she is feared by students and teachers alike. People don’t hang with Trina because they want to – they simply have to. Being Trina’s friend is kinda like a job, and some people will do just about anything to stay in her good books. Trina knows she has this school and its faculty wrapped around her little finger and she uses it to her advantage every chance she gets. “Think of our friendship as your internship to popularity.”

Trina’s diary entries are a mirror of her personality – self-important, melodramatic and read like something out of Anne of Green Gables. And even though Core and the band do their fair share to make her act like a complete diva, in the end it’s her own rotten attitude that gets in the way of her success and happiness.

Trina makes a great foil for Corey and his friends and from the early versions of the episode scripts I’ve gotten to take a peek at she gets some of the funniest lines and parts. You’ll definitely be seeing more of Trina and the rest the GrojBand cast in the months to come, so stay tuned and…

Life in a Bubble Marathon

Hey gang!
This winter has seen some truly weird weather in Toronto, and I always seem to be a day behind. One day it rains, so the next I carry an umbrella and instead it snows! I get out my heavy coat for the day after that and it’s nothing but the sun beating down the whole day! Break out the t-shirts, sunglasses and sunblock the day after that and I get caught in the rain!

Fortunately, it finally seems to be warming up and that means it’s time to break out the bubbles. At least that’s Family Channel’s plan! Over on family.ca they’re holding a vote for the most side-poppingly hilarious bubble moment from their favourite shows. That includes Fresh TV’s own Really Me! Head on over to watch some great bubble-based humour and vote for Maddy and her friends!

Art Jam – Birthdays

Hey gang!
We’ve been trying some new things with the art jams over on reFresh Pics, the deviantART group for all things Fresh TV, and consequently it’s been a little while since we’ve had a chance to feature some choice pieces here on the blog. Well no more! Back in March we put out the call for Birthday themed fan art and it’s finally time to take a look at a few of our favourite submissions.

Happy Birthday Cody by *djcchs2004 on deviantART

From djcchs2004 we have a scene where Cody is getting a larger than life birthday surprise from Sierra! I have to wonder how sanitary it is to hide in a cake like that; Cody’s going to have to wonder what else Sierra might jump out from!

”The Birthday Boy” ANEW by *daanton on deviantART

daanton took the opportunity to go back in time to the first season of 6TEEN (way back, in the days of yore!) to recreate and improve upon this scene from the episode “Birthday Boy”. Wyatt could use more hugs, I think.

Happy Birthday Cody! 2012 by ~ribbonfly on deviantART

It’s not surprise that ribbonfly went all out for this prompt – after all, she was the one who requested it! To celebrate Cody’s birthday, we’ve got a veritable cornucopia of Fresh characters: Sarah from My Babysitter’s a Vampire, Jude from 6TEEN, Wipeout from Stoked and a few of Cody’s fellow Total Drama alumni. Awesome stuff!

Happy Birthday Miriam by =rensgurl4ever on deviantART

This piece by rensgurl4ever wasn’t actually inspired by the art jam, but I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight what a great community of fan artists we see on reFresh Pics and around the internet as a whole. If I might be forgiven some sentimentality, it’s really heartwarming to see you guys trading art requests, giving gifts and even having your OCs hang out with each other. Seeing the love you have for the shows and their characters bringing people together and sparking friendships really drives home just how special our fans are.

Ahem! Okay, enough with serious-feelings-talking time! I also wanted to remind everyone to check out the MBV caption contest we’re holding this month. It’s a big change from our usual routine, which is part of why I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. We’ve already seen some fun entries, so keep them coming!

GrojBand – Corey Trippin

Hey gang!
In past weeks, we’ve gotten a look at some of the background and concept artwork for GrojBand, the new animated series from creators Todd Kauffman and Mark Thornton in pre-production at Fresh TV right now. Today we’ve got a character bio and some early character designs for our hero and band leader, Corey Trippin!

COREY ‘CORE’ TRIPPIN – Vox/Guitar “Lemme solo here for a sec”

Corey’s a cute, quirky 12 year old – popular with the dudes and even more so with the ladies. I mean, who can resist a charismatic guitar player with his very own band? Nobody, that’s who.

Core has a knack for making things go his way – and if they’re not, you can bet he’s got a plan up his sleeve to turn things around. He knows that being the band’s trusted LEADER is a super sweet gig. If only he knew what the Band’s “thing” was. But he’ll figure that out – again and again. And although he may seem off in his own world at times, he’d NEVER let the band down. Okay sure, having the band’s success riding on his shoulders can be a bit heavy – but the band’s behind him 110%. They know Core’s got the skills to pull it off.

Still, every good ‘Front Man’ knows his weakness. For Corey, it’s his LYRICS.

Oh tumble drier,
Dryeth my clothes.
Make them soft and easy to spill on,
And I shall cleaneth your lint tray in return.

So… yeah. Needless to say, Corey will do anything to get lyrics from his sister’s diary. He knows that her words are the CHEESE to his ROCK-ARONI, so his MAIN OBJECTIVE is to keep his sister’s life looking like a soap opera until he can crack the whole lyric writing thing. If anyone found out he was rippin’ these lyrics, it would be seriously UNCOOL. After all, he’s got a REP to maintain.

I really think you guys and gals are going to dig the adventures Core and his friends get into. It’s really exciting to be in the Fresh offices while the scripts are being written and fine-tuned and the storyboards are being drawn. We’ll keep updating you on the process here so you can be part of the show from the ground up!

Grojband Setting

Hey gang!
Today we’re got another excerpt from the the Grojband series bible to give you a peek at the very early development process of a brand new show. This time we’ll be taking a look at Setting! Where the story takes place and what kind of environment the characters exist in informs a lot of other decisions about where the series is going. Think about how important the mall was to 6TEEN or how different Total Drama Island was from Total Drama World Tour! Sometimes the setting generates a lot of the problems the characters face, like all of the supernatural spookiness in and around Whitechapel in My Babysitter’s a Vampire. The creators have to know if they’re working with a big city or a small town, whether the inhabitants are friendly to the cast or out to get them and what’s going on elsewhere in the setting while the viewers’ attention is in one place.

So where do Core and the band hang their hats? Welcome to Peaceville!

Grojband is set in the small, seemingly tranquil town of Peaceville, where everyone’s as pleased as punch and lemonade stands line the sidewalks on an easy breezy Sunday afternoon. A place that boasts records for having both the World’s Largest Goldfish and the World’s Smallest Goldfish Pond. There’s never a shortage of fairs, festivals, parades or coronations – a million and one potential gigs for the band to “GET NOTICED”.

Peaceville-ians are proud supporters of their community and will do whatever it takes to support a cause… to a point. According to some people, Core and his band are the one hang-nail on this otherwise perfectly manicured quiet little town.

As you can see, setting the series in Peaceville sets up lots of potential opportunities, conflicts and adventures for Core and his friends. Pretty cool, huh?
